EMERGENCY REPAIR OF AN ODOUR EXTRACTION SYSTEM
A public body managing a landfill with several waste treatment plants was faced with a sudden breakdown: heavy machinery accidentally struck and tore off part of the odour extraction system, damaging piping, valves and the dust-removal cyclone. BMB Purification intervened the day after the event, ensuring continuity of extraction with a temporary connection and fully restoring the plant within a month.

TECHNOLOGY USED
Dust-removal cyclone and two-stage scrubbing tower (acid and basic-oxidative), with dosing of sulphuric acid, caustic soda and sodium hypochlorite.

RESTORING THE EXTRACTION SYSTEM AFTER ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE
SOLUTIONS ADOPTED
Following a site inspection the day after the event, BMB Purification set up a temporary connection to keep extraction running across all 20 bays, avoiding prolonged plant downtime. A new dust-removal cyclone was then designed and installed, along with new piping and valves to replace those damaged in the impact.
THE RESULTS
The plant was down for just one day thanks to the temporary connection, while the permanent repair – new cyclone and new piping – required no more than two days of downtime. The entire operation, from site inspection to full commissioning, was completed within a month of the event.
